Authorities Discover Cause of Factory Fainting

Cambodian local authorities found that chemicals to keep insects away from cloth had caused nearly 500 garment workers at the WILLBES Cambodia Co. Ltd factory to faint, a local source reported on Tuesday.

Experts and local authority officials were searched and found the case of the fainting which struck hundreds of garment workers on Monday afternoon at the factory in Chaum Chao commune, Dangkau district of Phnom Penh.

Experts said that the vomiting and headaches suffered by around 500 workers was caused by parts of the cloth covered with by anti-flea chemicals.

There will apparently be long term health damage. Those tasked with investigating the case exhaustively followed all avenues before making their conclusions. Authorities suggested to the garment factory manager that air circulation be improved “because it makes healthier to all workers, and clear all anti-insect chemicals.”

After the victims returned from the hospital, the manager of the BILLBES Cambodia Co. Ltd said he would close the business for a few days to allow workers to rest.
